Dear Fellow Virginians, What a great way to begin the New Year! Earlier this week I wrote you an important Compass outlining a case I argued against the EPA. Please click here if you missed it. Yesterday evening a federal judge ruled in favor of my client, VDOT, and our co-Plaintiff, the Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County. Read the full press release from my office here. I’m proud to have fought alongside the Democrat Board of Supervisors to save Virginia taxpayers over $300 million combined—-for just one of thirty watersheds in the county. Even more important than the money saved, is the reaffirmation that federalism works. Our Founders understood that the government closest to the people works best. The Federal government has been slowly creeping on state authority for decades and recently they’ve tried to grab more and more power. Here, the EPA was trying to expand their authority to meddle into local land use—-a decision that should clearly remain at the local and state level. We’ve won this battle, but the fight is far from over. Please stay tuned for more on this! Thanks for your continued support! Sincerely, Ken Cuccinelli II Attorney General of Virginia | |
