Running for Vice Chair, Secretary, Platform Committee, or Credentials Committee?

Running for Party Office?

We will be holding elections for Vice Chair, Secretary, Platform Committee Representative, and Credentials Committee Representative at our special state convention next Saturday, May 6th, from noon to 5pm at the Meadowdale Library in Chesterfield County.

If you are seeking election to one of those party offices and would like information about your candidacy sent to the membership in advance, please send an email to Secretary@LPVirginia.org including your name, a ~200 word statement about your qualifications and goals, and how members can contact you for more information. 

Deadline is Sunday, April 30, to be included in the voters guide email to be sent Monday, May 1.

Job descriptions and requirements for each position are below.

Vice Chair

The Vice Chair shall chair meetings of the State Central Committee and all Party conventions in the absence of the Chair. Should the office of Chair become vacant for any reason, the Vice Chair shall assume the Chair.

The Vice Chair shall also carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the State Central Committee.

Secretary

The Secretary shall take and distribute minutes of all State Central Committee meetings and of all Party conventions.

In addition, the Secretary shall be responsible for official Party correspondence as required and for insuring the accuracy and completeness of all Party membership and mailing lists.

The Secretary shall also carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the State Central Committee.

The Secretary's nonvoting responsibilities shall continue beyond the Convention at which their replacement is elected for such duration as determined by the SCC solely in order to complete and present the Minutes of the Convention, the revised Constitution and Bylaws, and the revised Platform of the Libertarian Party of Virginia.

National Platform Committee Representative

The Platform Committee Representative will represent Virginia on the 20-member Platform Committee and help draft proposed changes to the Libertarian Party Platform

The Platform Committee typically has at least one in-person meeting several months in advance of the national convention and then a final meeting on the day before the national convention begins. The national convention will be July 1-3, 2018, in New Orleans.

Committee members are expected to invest an appreciable amount of their time into doing their jobs. 

Travel to the 2018 national convention and any pre-convention in-person meetings is a mandatory requirement for this position. Any travel costs incurred will be at personal expense.

National Credentials Committee Representative

Credentials Committee members gather and verify delegate data in the months leading up to the national convention, and then are expected to work onsite throughout the national convention, to be held July 1-3, 2018, in New Orleans. 

Travel to the 2018 national convention is a mandatory requirement for this position. Any travel costs incurred will be at personal expense.

to Host Town Hall Meeting


Senator Monty Mason and Delegate Mike Mullin are hosting their second post session town hall meeting on May 1. In the meeting, they will address the past veto session and answer any questions the public may have.

2017 Parents Against Bullying Youth Step Show


On Saturday, April 29th , join Parents Against Bullying as they present the 4th Annual Youth Step Show competition at Huntington Middle School, 3401 Orcutt Avenue in Newport News.  

The Stand Your Ground Against Bullying competition is a safe and family friendly event that will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The competition is “celebrating the community taking a stand against bullying and domestic violence.”  Prizes will include $500 and a trophy for first place, $200 and trophy for second place and $100 and a plaque for third place. Lee Hall Train Station Foundation Shares Life On the Railroad


Join the Lee Hall Train Station Foundation on Wednesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. for a behind the scenes look at life on the railroad. Hear from certified steam locomotive fireman/engineer Ken Jones as he relates his fascinating experiences working with trains for the RF&P and Western RR and at Busch Gardens. This event is free and open to the public and guests even have the chance to win door prizes!
