December 29, 2011 Dear Friends and Fellow Virginians, What a way to end the year! The timing didn't happen quite like I thought it would, but the news is out ... As many of you have now heard, in 2013 I will run for governor of Virginia! I haven't yet filed my candidacy papers, formed a campaign committee, or begun to seek the Office of Governor. I won't do those things until sometime next year. No, for now I have a very important job to do as the Attorney General of Virginia. And when it comes to future elections, our first priority is the 2012 elections where it's absolutely critical that we defeat President Obama, take back the U.S. Senate and increase conservative strength in the U.S. House. I hope you saw the Republican presidential forum on Fox News earlier this month where two other state attorneys general and I questioned the major Republican candidates for president on their views on federalism and the relationship of the federal government to the states. It was an excellent discussion of some core principles embodied in the American Founding and our U.S. Constitution. Even the New York Times said it was the most substantive discussion of the issues thus far in the campaign! Each of the Republican candidates is far superior to President Obama when it comes to understanding the core American principles of limited government and federalism. (And in a host of other ways too.) I truly appreciate your support of my efforts to fight for these same principles as Virginia's Attorney General. As we finish out 2011, we need to have a strong showing at the end of the reporting period – December 31st at midnight. Can you help us reach our goal of raising $40,000 online before that deadline by clicking here? You've stood with me these past two years as I've challenged President Obama's national health care law, sued the Environmental Protection Agency over its "endangerment finding" that greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide cause global warming, and attempted to keep numerous other federal agencies from breaking the law and harming Virginia (and America). I hope you will continue to stand with me over the next two years as I keep up my fight for core principles as Attorney General, work to defeat President Obama and elect conservatives to office in 2012 and, when the time comes, launch my campaign for governor. Liberals are already working hard to discredit me. Even before I begin campaigning for governor sometime next year, they would love nothing more than to defeat me right now in my work as your Attorney General. Please help me fight back by sending a generous donation to my political committee of $50, $100 or even more today. As an elected official, I'm prohibited from receiving contributions during the General Assembly session, which will begin soon after the first of the year and continue through the middle of March. I'm gratified that my efforts to fight for freedom are having success and gaining support around the country. But it means the left will be even more determined to oppose me. Your continued support will be a major boost to my continued efforts to stand up for America's founding principles as your Attorney General. Please help us reach our goal by clicking here!
