Traditional Marriage has been struck another major blow by an out of control federal judiciary. Last night U.S. District Court Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen, in Norfolk, VA struck down the Virginia Marriage Amendment. She was nominated by Sen. Mark Warner and appointed by Barack Obama.
In order to be added to the Virginia Constitution, this amendment had to pass both houses of the Virginia General Assembly two consecutive years without any change in the language, which it did in 2005 and 2006. It then required a majority vote by the voters of Virginia and was passed in November of 2006 with 57% support. However, after untold thousands of hours put in by grassroots lobbyists and activists, and tens of thousands of dollars being donated to conservative organizations to educate voters on this issue, an activist judge struck it down with one stroke of her pen. She was sworn in less than four months ago. Reports are that she was giddy with excitement for such a quick opportunity to open the door to same sex marriage.
This decision potentially affects the whole nation. The New York Times was gleeful about it: "If the Court of Appeals upholds Thursday's decision, the repercussions in the South could be wide. Similar amendments limiting marriage to a man and a woman would most likely be voided in other states of the Fourth Circuit, including North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia."
Next Tuesday we have several experts to talk about this critical issue: Del. Bob Marshall of Virginia, one of the original authors and sponsors of the Virginia Marriage Amendment - also known as the Marshall-Newman Amendment; Brian Brown of the National Organization for Marriage and Victoria Cobb of the Virginia Family Foundation.
If we concede now, the battle will be lost and marriage as we know it will face utter destruction. Join us next Tuesday at Noon, and take a STAND for biblical marriage!
