This was the seat vacated by Lynwood Lewis, who defeated Coleman in a recount for the 6th Senate seat in Norfolk. Melody's opponent for the Republican nomination supported Lewis and cost us control of the Senate and now has the nerve to run for the Republican nomination. The district is very winnable, if Melody can win the nomination we stand a very good chance of picking up an additional conservative in the House of Delegates for a long time. However, her opponent has considerable establishment support, and it will take some real effort from the grass roots to defeat him. The mass meeting will be held on Saturday, February 8th, and we can help by making phone calls to get more delegates to the meeting for Melody. Please contact Mike Troxel for details on how you can help: mike.vipvideo@gmail.com, 434-258-4437. Northern Virginia is a key battleground in this fight for votes to replace left wing representatives and Senator Warner with candidates that support Constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets... all foreign concepts to our current representation in Washington. Please join us for our February meeting to start our participation in this fight. First we will discuss the "Precinct Project" method and associated tools that can get you active immediately within your community by building relationships. Next, Reagan George of the Virginia Voter's Alliance will provide Election Observer training so we understand the precinct issues seen in our area, and are prepared to do something about them. Thank you, very much, for your interest in the Alexandria Tea Party. We look forward to seeing you at the February meeting to start our path to the 2014 elections. Five years ago, Americans around the country spontaneously united to stand up to government waste, government overreach and government abuse. Five years ago, we said "no more" to watching our elected officials ignore the Constitution and the free market principles this country was founded on. With the auto bailouts, stimulus packages, Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), and the utter abandonment of fiscal responsibility, it was clear Washington was in need of a serious intervention. Five years later, the Tea Party movement has made significant progress. The 2010 landslide elections showed us that the American people are tired of being let down by spend-happy politicians in Washington. Last year during the budget battle, we learned when we are united, we can accomplish great things, like forcing Congress to listen to the people and stand up to President Obama. Still, there's work to be done. America still has serious challenges ahead in the form of Obamacare, immigration reform, and runaway spending. On February 27, the Tea Party Patriots will gather at the Hyatt Capitol Hill to celebrate the movement's five-year anniversary, reflect on past successes, and pave a path forward. Join Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin and other liberty-loving Americans including Sen. Mike Lee (UT), Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX), and Rep. Steve King (IA), as we continue to fight for limited government and fiscal responsibility. For more information on the event or to reserve your place today, please click here. Our speaker in January was Harry Wu, founder of the Laogai Museum and Research Foundation, who gave an inspirational talk about surviving 19 years in captivity in China and fleeing to the United States to expose China's extensive forced labor prison system for political dissidents. The Museum, located near Dupont Circle, is well worth your time. Spend two hours and come away changed. More information at http://www.laogai.org/. # # # |
