Dear Friend:   The Senate Committee on Privileges and Elections will vote on my Constitutional Amendment to protect property rights on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.     As you may know, my House Joint Resolution 3 passed the House last week by a vote of 80-18.  (This is the Amendment that would limit eminent domain to public use, not the more nebulous "public purpose," and would also ensure that the government take no more property than necessary.)   If the Amendment is endorsed by the Committee, it will head to the full Senate, and if it passes there, it will come before the voters in a referendum this fall.  Given that the Senate has already voted in favor of a reciprocal measure, we are hopeful that the bill will pass committee on Tuesday.    You can join the fight for property rights by signing the Virginia Property Rights Petition.  Click here to sign it.      You can also contact your Senator directly by clicking here.
