As my first week of being a delegate comes to a close, I wanted to give you all an update on how things are going here in Richmond. Team Taylor hit the ground running with our legislative priorities and Virginia's most pressing issues on our minds.
I was very pleased that Speaker Howell appointed me to the Transportation and Counties, Cities and Towns Committees. Both are important for Virginia Beach and also for dealing with some very pressing issues statewide. In addition to working on those committees, I'll be fighting to utilize the nation's abundance of natural gas, using this cheap energy source to fuel economic growth, create jobs, and help Virginia lead the way in these efforts. I'm also working to help improve our voting process to include all military voters and those serving in government contracts overseas. It is shameful to exclude those who bear untold sacrifices from participating in selecting candidates who may one day have a vote to send them to war.
Also this week, we said goodbye to outgoing Governor Bob McDonnell, and will be welcoming incoming Governor Terry McAuliffe to office this weekend. I look forward to working with Governor McAuliffe to find common ground, so that we can make sure Virginia remains the best place to do business and raise a family. Members of the General Assembly will work together to ensure meaningful ethics reforms in our Capitol, so that citizens faith in us will not be tainted, and mental-health initiatives will be enacted to make sure that we address those problems facing our system as well.
I am here to serve you, and I will keep you updated throughout the session. I also want to see and hear from you while I am in session. If there is legislation you would like to discuss, or if you would like to schedule a meeting, please call us at (804) 698-1085, or you can also email me at DelSTaylor@house.virginia.gov. We are happy to set up tours of the Capitol as well.
With Respect,
Scott Taylor
