| | | | Greetings from a rainy Richmond! Despite the dreary weather, business continues as usual inside Virginia's capitol. By 5:00 p.m. today, legislators must complete all requests for budget amendments and drafts of legislation. Although today concludes a fairly quiet week, Saturday will see the inauguration of Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe, and next week will bring a full schedule of committee and caucus meetings. |
Earlier this week, the Speaker of the House of Delegates announced committee assignments. I am pleased to share that I will be serving as vice chair of the House Education Committee and will continue serving on the Finance Committee, Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee, and the Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee. I am honored to serve on these four committees, and I look forward to the opportunity to review and support legislation that will benefit the residents of our community. Service on these committees enables me to offer direct input about issues that are important to the citizens of York and James City Counties. Fiscal accountability, education, mental health reform, Medicaid expansion, and the protection of our natural resources number among the top priorities of my constituents and all Virginians, and I look forward to representing your interests in Richmond |
2014 Legislation: Transparency in Government |
Thus far this year I have filed nine bills. Throughout the upcoming weeks, I will profile several of these bills as well as some of the budget amendments that I introduced. If you would like a preview of all of my filed legislation, please click HERE.
All property owners should be provided the information necessary to understand and, when necessary, appeal the taxes levied on their property. House Bill 525 will ensure that tax assessment notices list the amounts of the total tax levies for the immediately prior two tax years as well as information about how to obtain resources to appeal the assessment. This additional information guarantees that property owners have ready access to historical tax data and the tools required to contest an assessment. House Bill 525 has been assigned to the Finance Committee. |
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of attending Governor McDonnell's final State of the Commonwealth address. The past four years have seen positive progress in many areas, and I consider myself honored to have worked with Governor McDonnell and supported many of his outstanding initiatives.
Also this week, I had the opportunity to spend time with members of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women during their annual legislative day. I also enjoyed visiting in my office with folks from the 96th District. Below is a list of visitors from this week. I apologize if I omitted anyone, and I thank you for stopping by!
