As we welcome the New Year and bid farewell to 2013, I hope that you and your family shared a joyful holiday season. My husband Roger and I were blessed to spend Christmas day with all five of our children and also our five grandchildren. The house was full of laughter and thanksgiving, and we treasured our time together. Reflecting on last year, I would like to thank you for not only your friendship and support, but also your engagement in the political process. In the United States, we are privileged to have a representative government designed to remain responsive to voter feedback. In order for the system to work as designed by our founding fathers, citizen participation is critical. As we enter 2014, I ask that you adopt a New Year's resolution to encourage your friends and neighbors-especially those who are not currently involved-to pay attention to the positions and actions of our government. The strength of our nation depends on well-informed voters who are willing to stand up for their core beliefs. On Wednesday, January 8, the members of the General Assembly will return to Richmond for the 2014 legislative session. During the upcoming weeks, I will be sharing with you both my legislative agenda and information about important bills. Please stay tuned for additional emails, and I will look forward to hearing your feedback. |
