Morning Briefing

For February 18, 2013

1.  Politico's Emily Schulteis Misses a Few Key Details About Bobby Jindal

Politico reporter Emily Schulteis proves today why journalism is a dying and biased industry. She bought the spin of a Louisiana political hack who actually worked for Kathleen Blanco – a politician Jindal ran against and practically forced out of office. In fact, in quoting Bob Mann, Schulteis never even mentioned that his former boss, Kathleen Blanco, was driven from office by the looming Jindal wave in 2007.

We expect most mainstream reporters to do intense research before they write a story. In Schulteis' case, it's clear she didn't research a single thing and fell for the opposition's talking points hook line and sinker. Or maybe she set out to write this narrative and chose to ignore facts inconvenient to it.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post

2.  Chicago Police Chief: Second Amendment Is A Danger To Public Safety

Chicago's Chief of Police, who previously blamed "government-sponsored racism" and Sarah Palin for Chicago's gun violence, declared that the law-ful exercise of the Second Amendment was a threat to public safety. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  Govs. Haley, McDonnell & McCrory Urge Drilling the Atlantic Offshore

Sally Jewell is CEO of REI, Inc.*, and President Obama's choice to replace outgoing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. In anticipation of Senate confirmation hearings, the Republican governors of three coastal Atlantic states have written a letter to Ms. Jewell to urge her support of oil and gas exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) adjoining their states.

The letter is signed by Governors Nikki Haley of South Carolina, Bob McDonnell of Virginia and of Pat McCrory of North Carolina. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  Spin Masters

I've been catching up on my reading of late. One book I've been making my way through in detail and contributed a quote on behalf of for publication is David Freddoso's Spin Masters: How the Media Ignored the Real News and Helped Reelect Barack Obama published by RedState's sister company, Regnery Publishing.

It's the book that needed to be written about 2012. A conservative criticism of the media that many in the media shared was the routine habit of reporters fixating on Obama talking points and ignoring news not spun up by that campaign. . . . please click here for the rest of the post
