Several pro-gun bills that VCDL is backing are soon going to be on Governor McDonnell's desk for signature.
First is SB 1335 - Senator Mark Obenshain's bill to protect CHP information. A big thank you is, of course, due to Senator Obenshain for putting in the bill and fighting to get it passed.
In the Senate, these Senators voted WITH gun owners:
Black, Blevins, Carrico, Colgan, Deeds, Ebbin, Edwards, Favola, Garrett, Hanger, Marsden, Marsh, Martin, McDougle, McWaters, Miller, Newman, Norment, Northam, Obenshain, Petersen, Puckett, Reeves, Ruff, Smith, Stanley, Stosch, Stuart, Vogel, Wagner, Watkins
These Senators voted AGAINST gun owners:
Alexander, Barker, Herring, Howell, Locke, Lucas, McEachin, Puller, Saslaw
I know that you are probably drawing a deep breath at reading the names of some of those who voted with gun owners. I believe I have an explanation: they were voting on SB 1335 as a privacy issue and not really a gun issue.
This was a huge victory! Please contact the Governor's office and encourage him to sign SB1335. Click here for the Governor's webmail page:

The second bill is HB 1604, Delegate Farrell's bill that will remove the prohibition on locksmiths and electronic security personnel with CHPs from being able to carry while on the job. That bill blasted out of both the House and Senate unanimously! I expect the Governor will sign HB 1604. Thanks to Delegate Farrell for putting in this bill.
The third bill is HB 2317 and SB 1363, Delegate Anderson and Senator Vogel's bill that will allow military personnel who live in a nearby state and commute to their permanent duty station here in Virginia, to buy guns in Virginia. Both the House & Senate voted unanimously to support our military by passing these bills. I expect the Governor to sign both bills. Thanks to Delegate Anderson and to Senator Vogel for introducing those matching bills.
The fourth bill is HB 1582, Delegate Mark Cole's bill that will allow private K-12 schools to have armed security guards. I can't believe that such a bill would even be controversial, especially since we are talking about PRIVATE SCHOOLS!
Voting in the House to protect children in private schools:
Albo, Anderson, Bell, Richard P., Bell, Robert B., Brink, Byron, Cline, Cole, Comstock, Cosgrove, Cox, J.A., Cox, M.K., Crockett-Stark, Dance, Dudenhefer, Edmunds, Fariss, Farrell, Garrett, Gilbert, Greason, Habeeb, Head, Helsel, Hodges, Howell, A.T., Hugo, Iaquinto, Ingram, Joannou, Johnson, Jones, Kilgore, Knight, Landes, LeMunyon, Lewis, Lingamfelter, Lopez, Loupassi, Marshall, D.W., Marshall, R.G., Massie, May, Merricks, Miller, Minchew, Morris, O'Bannon, O'Quinn, Orrock, Peace, Plum, Pogge, Poindexter, Purkey, Putney, Ramadan, Ransone, Robinson, Rush, Rust, Scott, E.T., Sherwood, Sickles, Spruill, Stolle, Surovell, Tata, Tyler, Villanueva, Ware, O., Ware, R.L., Watson, Watts, Webert, Wilt, Wright, Yancey, Yost, Mr. Speaker
Voting in the House against protecting children in private schools:
BaCote, Bulova, Carr, Filler-Corn, Herring, Hester, Hope, James, Keam, Kory, Krupicka, McClellan, McQuinn, Morrissey, Scott, J.M., Torian, Toscano, Ward
Voting in the Senate to protect children in private schools:
Alexander, Barker, Black, Blevins, Carrico, Colgan, Deeds, Edwards, Favola, Garrett, Hanger, Herring, Howell, Martin, McDougle, McWaters, Miller, Newman, Norment, Northam, Obenshain, Petersen, Puckett, Puller, Reeves, Ruff, Saslaw, Smith, Stanley, Stosch, Stuart, Vogel, Wagner, Watkins
Voting in the Senate against protecting children in private schools:
Ebbin, Locke, Lucas, Marsden, Marsh, McEachin
Thanks to Delegate Cole for the bill. I expect the Governor to sign this bill, also.
The fifth and final bill is HB 1833, Delegate Lingamfelter's bill to reorganize the concealed carry laws to make them more readable and understandable. Because it doesn't actually change the law, it passed unanimously from both houses and I expect the Governor will sign it.
Except for the Governor signing the above bills, the legislative session is almost over for us. We will be tabulating the voting records, paying particular attention to those who did not support Delegate Marshall's bill prohibiting state and local employees from helping the federal government enforce new gun control passed after 12/31/12. That bill died in House Appropriations because no one would second a motion to pass it out. It will be considered an anti-gun vote by all on Appropriations committee except Delegate Liingamfelter, who made the motion to pass the bill out of committee.
Good job VCDL!!!
Elections are THIS November for the House of Delegates, the Attorney General, the Lt. Governor, and the Governor. More information will be forthcoming on those races as the year progresses.
