The Alexandria Tea Party is issuing a call to all of its members to become delegates to the 2013 Virginia Republican Convention on Saturday, May 18th. We need as many people as possible to join our delegation in order to ensure that the most qualified candidates who support Tea Party principles are selected to compete against the Leftist Democrats in the general election. While Ken Cuccinelli may be the de facto Republican nominee for governor, there are 2 contenders for Attorney General, and 7 contenders for Lieutenant Governor! The Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation believes it is possible for the Tea Parties of Virginia to be the decisive factor in selecting who will run for these positions. However, to be this decisive force, we need to unite behind a single set of candidates. For this reason, the Federation and Tea Parties across the Commonwealth (including Alexandria Tea Party), are partnering with The Middle Resolution in order to select the most qualified candidates who can both win the election and will govern according to the principles of limited government. This will be accomplished by putting every candidate through the most thorough and objective candidate vetting process the Commonwealth and perhaps the nation has ever seen. This process will cover three broad areas of consideration. - Can they Win the Nomination? Have they done the necessary work, built the right organization, and have the overall ability to secure the nomination.
- Can they Win the Election? Each candidate's campaign history, organization, and staff will be analyzed to determine whether or not they can actually defeat the Left in the general election.
- How Will They Govern? Each candidate's previous voting record and history will be analyzed to determine the candidate's ideological disposition, and each candidate will go through an interview to determine their true philosophical stance on issues such as the role of government and free market economics.
Through this process we will select the candidate to support with the full united strength of the Tea Party. This is why our call is not only for delegates, but a call for those who will pledge to support the candidates selected through this process.
