Patriot Act on steroids VOTE NO HB 1946 NO "Government SECRET 'Fishing Expedition' Searches" Virginia's assault on the Fourth Amendment warrant and the rule of law Excerpts from the article: The Virginia General Assembly has now created such "illegal" general warrants that authorize Virginia officials to issue "unilateral" subpoenas to computer service providers, meaning without approval by a neutral judge or magistrate, without probable cause, and failing to describe the place from which documents are to be produced. General warrants were one reason why we fought the American Revolution. This legislation is "illegal" even under the existing search and seizure provision in Article I, Section 10 of the Virginia Constitution, which predated and is weaker than the Fourth Amendment. Vote NO - HB 1946 ON DOCKET THIS AFTERNOON Please call the Senate Courts of Justice committee: Norment (Co-Chair), Obenshain (Co-Chair), Saslaw, Howell, Lucas, Edwards, Puller, McDougle, McEachin, Stuart, Vogel, Stanley, Reeves, Garrett, Chafin Thanks, The CoLA Team, Cooperative Legislative Action (CoLA), VA Tea Party Patriots Federation |
