McGuire Introduces Legislation to Protect Fundamental Rights of Parents
RICHMOND, VA –Delegate John McGuire has announced House Bill 1507, requiring school boards to document how new policies comply with Virginia state law, regarding the fundamental right of parents to make decisions concerning the upbringing, education, and care of the parent's child.
“Virginia parents deserve a say in their children’s education. During the 2021 election fellow Virginians showed how much this matters to us, and after all the difficulties school boards have given parents in exercising this right the last two to three years, it’s time the parents get some power back.” - Delegate John McGuire, Candidate for Virginia Senate District 10.
“Parental rights legislation, HB 1507, is common sense legislation that strikes a balance between the school boards’ responsibility to ensure students in the district receive a quality education, and a parent’s right to hold the school board accountable, if they begin to lose sight of their responsibility. If school boards are respecting parents’ rights, as written in VA law, then they should have no concerns with this legislation.”
- Craig DiSesa, Executive Director of the Virginia Education Opportunity Alliance.
