Newsletter Week One Update 2023

McGuire Senate District 10 Campaign Kickoff
Together we will win, "Right the Ship", and "un-California Virginia! I can't tell you how much fun we had at our campaign kick-off. Folks made the drive from all ten counties in Senate District 10. Our speakers were magnificent. Everyone thanked me for not having to speak after Bishop E.W. Jackson. He fired us up! The event was 11am to 2pm, but many stayed until 4pm. I am humbled by the bridges we are building and the growing coalition of support across the district for my campaign to be your State Senator of District 10. This is the kind of leadership we will need to win in November!
My Opponent's Record
You have got to be a convincing salesman in order to get a political party nomination back and forth between both parties. The last time my opponent, Duane Adams of Louisa County, ran for state office in Virginia's Senate District 10, he ran as a Democrat in Hanover County, against beloved Conservative Republican Delegate Frank Hargrove. In fact, he flip-flopped back and forth by running for state office, first as a Republican, and then three times for state office as a Democrat. Now he is running against me to be your Republican State Senator.

Click here to read a letter with the facts sent to us from fellow Conservative Republican VA State Senator (retired) Dick Black:

  • Fact: President Ronald Reagan never hid the fact that he once voted Democrat before becoming a Republican and he never ever ran for election anywhere in the United States as a Democrat.
2023 Session Update Week 1
The General Assembly convened on Wednesday, January 11th marking the beginning of the 403rd legislative session of the House of Delegates.

Each year I begin session in the Virginia General Assembly by attending the Annual Commonwealth Prayer breakfast. We prayed for Glenn Youngkin, Virginia, and more. I'm asking you to pray for less division and more wisdom and guidance for not only me, but all Virginia leaders.

Grocery Tax Cut Takes Effect
Thank you, Governor Youngkin, and my good friend, Roanoke Delegate Joe McNamara, for promises kept. On January 1, the sales tax rate on groceries in Virginia decreased from 2.5% to 1%. This was a great first step. We are working hard to finish the job this session! (Great to see my back pack with a baby sock made the photo in the news!)
Our Team is Growing
Volunteers Wanted! Our team of staff and volunteers is growing. Thank you for helping us improve Virginia. If you want to volunteer on my campaign for State Senate, please email john@mcguireforvirginia.com
2023 Agribusiness Council 51st Celebration "Ag Prom"
Powhatan Delegate Lee Ware, Chairman of Agriculture Chesapeake and Natural Resources in the General Assembly, invited all legislators to "Ag Prom", the 51st annual Agribusiness Council Legislative Appreciation dinner. The National Anthem singer was amazing. Farmers and forestry make up the largest industry in Virginia, with a $70 billion-a-year fiscal impact, and also providing 450,000 jobs. I am happy that Louisa County Supervisor Rachel Jones was able to join her son, Brayden, who was there to represent the VA State 4H program as one of the 2022 Youth in Action Award Winners!

Our friend and Chairman of Appropriations Delegate Barry Knight received the Distinguished Friend of Agriculture award at the Virginia Agribusiness Council Legislative Appreciation Banquet.
Back Packs for Kids
Our friends at the Bundle of Joy collected 157 backpacks and bags to be given to children entering the foster care system. When they learned these kids are handed a trash bag, they knew something needed to do be done. They hope to double that number next year!

"All of the generosity of the parents and staff of Bundle of Joy was incredible. We can’t wait to do it again and collect many more backpacks and help more counties across the Commonwealth."

VCDL Lobby Day is going to be on Monday, January 16, with a rally at 11am at the Bell Tower. We are going to have a large agenda, with the Bruen ruling helping us along. Stand with your fellow gun owners to take back our right to keep and bear arms!  No one does more to protect our 2nd amendment rights than VCDL. I look forward to speaking to the crowd on Monday. For details, click here.
