2023 Session Update Week 3

Governor Youngkin "Compete to Win"

Governor Glenn Youngkin discusses teamwork "Getting it Done Together", and his major tax cut policies in Virginia including my bill to lower taxes on Virginia retired Veterans HB 1436.

I had the honor of addressing the crowd, leading the pledge of allegiance, and introducing my friend, and our caucus tax expert, Delegate Joe McNamara.

It was a huge honor to speak at Governor Youngkin's, "Compete to Win", event at the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Richmond. It was good to see Senator Siobhan Dunnavant, Delegates A.C. Cordoza, constituents, and many other friends there as well!

2023 McGuire Legislative Agenda

Amelia World Series Champions

Amelia County Delegate Tommy Wright recognized and congratulated the Amelia Dixie Youth Major League All-Star boys Baseball Team for winning the Dixie Youth Division II Majors World Series in 2022! Click here to read Delegate Tommy Wright's resolution.

Over the summer while campaigning for State Senate District 10 in Amelia County, I met the Dixie Youth Major All-stars players, coaches, and parents. They were doing a car wash to raise money so the team could go to South Carolina and compete in the World Series. Congratulations for winning the championship!

Happy Birthday, Dale Hargrove Alderman of Hanover

I stopped by Lola's Farmhouse Bistro and crashed former Hanover GOP Chair Dale Hargrove's Birthday Party. Her father Republican Delegate Frank Hargrove represented Hanover County in the House of Delegates and is the father of the modern Republican Conservative movement in Virginia. It is hard to believe, the last time my opponent ran at the state level in Virginia State Senate District 10, he ran as a Democrat against beloved Republican Conservative Frank Hargrove.

Buckingham Farm Bureau

Thank you to members of the Buckingham Farm Bureau, for stopping by and sharing concerns for farmers in Buckingham County. I'm glad to hear you are very much in support of the Ag bill I am working on with Delegate Michael Webert. This bill gives Virginia Farmers more time by extending the effective date of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan.

Success

Success! My bill, HB 1891, a groundbreaking treatment (Learn more here) that helps those with traumatic brain injury, mental health, addiction, and autism, by establishing a Trans-cranial Magnetic Stimulation pilot program in Virginia. Thank you, to Brandon Soleau, a medically retired Army Ranger from the Ranger regiment, for sharing your expertise to help pass this bill in the General Assembly.

This bill will help people struggling with mental health, and I am excited it passed Health Welfare and Institutions Sub Committee this week, unopposed! I've been working on this legislation all summer with State Senator John Cosgrove. His Senate version SB1234 has already passed the Senate floor 40-0!

The "Teebow bill"

Unfortunately, the Teebow Bill, a bill I chief co-partroned with Delegate Marie March to allow home school students to participate in public school sports died in committee again this year. I am a big proponent of Home School and I believe this is great bill for Virginia youth. We will keep pushing!

Virginia National Guard Reception

Virginia National Guard Senior Leaders, public servants within the gubernatorial administration, and members of the Virginia General Assembly, including Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears, attended the Virginia National Guard Reception. The evening event included a catered buffet meal by Mission BBQ, complementary beverage service, and brief comments from the Virginia National Guard leadership, and leaders of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
