We may want to carpool and arrive at 5:30 -- parking is limited. I intend to get there at 5 with a sign. If you don't live in YC, this will be a warning to other land grabbing localities in Virginia, so it's important to show up in downtown Yorktown this coming Wednesday night, May 14. Info below.
York County Supervisors are getting ready to rezone land owned by as many as 4000-7000 landowners in YC and REMOVE existing farming rights. WE NEED A BIG CROWD. Delegates Brenda Pogge, Gordon Helsel & Rick Morris have agreed to speak, along with some property rights heroes from other parts of the state.
Join us: You don't need to bring a sign.
The rally ends at 7pm when the Planning Commission meeting starts, which is just as important as the rally. We must pack the house that night. Even if you can't make it to the rally, PLEASE COME TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING at 7pm and sign up to speak, or just sit and listen in support of your neighbors. This meeting could still be going on at 10:00 or after, but you can leave anytime you wish.
Over 430 people have signed this petition... will you sign if you haven't already? ... it will only take a minute and is free:
This is not JUST about property rights, farming rights, cleaning the Bay & oysters. It is about stopping the abuse of power by our local elected officials. Your voice and presence WILL make a difference. Being there will show your concern and your willingness to step outside of your comfort zone to confront a potential unacceptable zoning change in York County.
Virginia's Pitchfork Protest III: Removing Rights is Wrong!!
The Next Battle for Property Rights in Virginia in Liberty Landmark York County
Following the Virginia General Assembly's passage of two new laws (with overwhelming statewide majority this year) limiting how counties may require permits for agricultural and aquaculture on land zoned for it. York County has announced that it will probably eliminate the existing right to conduct agricultural at least in York Point area of Seaford, and has targeted local oyster farmers for "special use" permitting in contravention of these recently enacted state laws.
Speakers: Martha Boneta, Virginia Delegate Brenda Pogge, Virginia Delegate Gordon Helsel, Virginia Delegate Rick Morris, Lois Smith (President of Virginia Independent Consumers and Farmers Association), King George County Supervisor Ruby Brabo, Mark Fitzgibbons (constitutional attorney), & owners of York County oyster farms: Anthony Bavuso and Greg Garrett.
When: Wednesday, May 14, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Where: York Hall, 301 Main St, Yorktown VA
Why: This citizen-based, grassroots protest will call attention to the unprecedented potential action of the York County Board of Supervisors and serve as a warning to other localities throughout the state. The protest symbolizes citizens taking action to protect their property and other constitutionally protected rights, especially against zoning abuses and overreach by local governments.
