[LPVA Announce] HB82 likely to be considered on Tue, Feb 2, at 7:30AM

If your Delegate is on the Elections Subcommittee of the Virginia House Privileges & Elections Committee, please email and call him or her immediately to ask them to vote for HB82. HB82 will likely come up for consideration at the next meeting of the Elections Subcommittee on Tuesday, February 2, at 7:30AM.

Delegate Sam Rasoul (D-Roanoke) has introduced HB82, which reduces the vote test for a political party to remain on the ballot from 10% to 5% of the vote in a statewide election in either of the last two statewide elections. I thank Del. Rasoul very much for being the Patron on this bill.

The Delegates on the Elections Subcommittee are:

Ransone (District 99) is the Subcommittee Chair
Landes (District 25)
Fowler (District 55)
Adams (District 16)
Sickles (District 43)
Torian (District 52), and
Cole (District 88).

Only Alabama (at 20%) has a tougher vote test requirement for a party to remain on the ballot. States bordering Virginia have far lower retention requirements: 5% in Tennessee, 2% in North Carolina and Kentucky, 1% in Maryland and West Virginia. The median vote test requirement for all fifty states is only 2%. And, Virginia is one of only four states in which only the Republican and Democratic parties have been ballot qualified over the past 19 years (PA, NJ & NH).

For those of you who can lobby legislators in person, please be sure to ask for support of HB82.

Thank you very much.
