VPAP LAUNCHES MAPS SHOWING

CONTESTED/UNCONTESTED ASSEMBLY RACES

Today, VPAP.org launched a statewide map that visualizes the number of competitive General Assembly elections - or lack thereof.

The maps underscore the sharp contrast between the state Senate and House of Delegates.

Senate elections will be the most competitive in more than a decade, with 26 of 40 seats contested. Competition in House elections dropped to the lowest level in a decade, with only 37 of 100 seats contested.

The maps display three types of ballots:
  • Contested (RED: race with candidates from both major parties)
  • Contested (ORANGE: incumbent challenged by independent or third party candidate)
  • Uncontested (WHITE: single candidate on ballot)
