Decisive Victory For Black at Debate | ||
Last night Dick Black won a decisive victory over his Democratic opponent, Shawn Mitchell, in their first ever debate sponsored by Prince William County's Committee of 100. During an hour-long question and answer session, Dick Black's extensive experience and knowledge of the issues were clearly evident, while Mitchell gave pre-written, sound-bite responses, and prefaced every comment by saying "as a small business owner…" "Perhaps it would be prudent for us to wait a few years to see if he can successfully run a business before we send him to Richmond to see if he can run the state," said one attendee. Mitchell continued his campaign of negative attacks without offering real solutions as he repeatedly tried to paint Dick Black as a "career politician." Black responded by reminding Mitchell of his 32 years of military service which includes being a combat-wounded Vietnam Veteran, a Marine Corps pilot, a flight instructor, running the Port at Moorehead City, serving as a Marine engineer company commander, rebuilding an air field in Puerto Rico and running a rock quarry. After Law School, Dick Black reminded Mitchell that he was the lead trial counsel in Ft. Hood, TX, Staff Judge Advocate in charge of legal offices with up to 40 attorneys and finished his career as the Director of the Criminal Law Division at the Pentagon where he personally advised the Senate Armed Services Committee on issues of major national significance, testified before Congress and prepared Executive Orders for signature by the President of the United States. Not willing to let go of his sound-bite, Mitchell tried explaining that a career politician is somebody who loses an election, and then tries to run for office again. Having won 9 out of 10 elections, Dick Black wasn't swayed. With encouragement in his voice, Dick Black turned to Shawn and counseled him to not give up when faced with defeat, but persevere in his pursuit of public service no matter what the obstacles in life. Mitchell was asked during the debate if he supports President Barak Obama, and his response was unequivocal. "I absolutely support Barak Obama," Mitchell responded, providing the clearest indication yet of the kind of intrusive, over-reaching government policies Democrat Shawn Mitchell wants to impose on Virginia. At the end of the evening, Mitchell launched his final attack of the night, falsely claiming that Black voted to cut teacher pay. Black corrected Mitchell saying, "There was not a single year that I did not support higher teacher pay. In fact, Delegate Frederick introduced legislation one year that would require that with every appropriations measure that was put together, every budget would include a teacher pay increase, and I voted for that. And interestingly, the people who fought against it were the Democrats who wanted to demagogue the issue! If the Republicans passed a bill that made it automatic, it would make it difficult for the democrats to demagogue it, just as you are doing tonight." The audience erupted in applause. Meanwhile, details of Shawn Mitchell having been sued by his former employer for stealing client lists, trade secrets and breaking a Non-Compete agreement are burning up the internet. Check out this link to VirginiaVirtucon, which lays out details about his lawsuit. His employer called him "untrustworthy" and said they "hoped not to repeat their mistake of hiring an employee like him again."
