TUESDAY.APRIL 25.2017                                                                         Senator Mason and Delegate Mullin to Host Town Hall Meeting Senator Monty Mason and Delegate Mike Mullin are hosting their second post session town hall meeting on May 1. In the meeting, they will address the past veto session and answer any questions the public may have. The event is open to all residents and is being held in the Kiln Creek Elementary School auditorium located at 1501 Kiln Creek Pkwy from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. To learn more visit their Town Hall Facebook page. Read more... 2017 Parents Against Bullying Youth Step Show On Saturday, April 29th , join Parents Against Bullying as they present the 4th Annual Youth Step Show competition at Huntington Middle School, 3401 Orcutt Avenue in Newport News.   The Stand Your Ground Against Bullying competition is a safe and family friendly event that will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The competition is “celebrating the community taking a stand against bullying and domestic violence.”  Prizes will include $500 and a trophy for first place, $200 and trophy for second place and $100 and a plaque for third place. Lee Hall Train Station Foundation Shares Life On the Railroad Join the Lee Hall Train Station Foundation on Wednesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. for a behind the scenes look at life on the railroad. Hear from certified steam locomotive fireman/engineer Ken Jones as he relates his fascinating experiences working with trains for the RF&P and Western RR and at Busch Gardens. This event is free and open to the public and guests even have the chance to win door prizes! FRIDAY.APRIL 14.2017                                                                         Milling and Paving Work to Begin on Boxley Boulevard and Menchville Road   Residents and motorists are advised that HRSD will begin milling and paving operations on Boxley Boulevard starting Monday, April 17. Work begins westbound near Warwick Boulevard, moving toward Menchville Road. Construction takes place between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Drivers will have access to Boxley Boulevard in both directions at a reduced capacity during construction. The work is anticipated to take about 10 days to complete, but is weather dependent. Week-long Birthday Events for Ella Fitzgerald at Downing-Gross The City has been gearing up all year for this special week to honor local jazz great Ella Fitzgerald on what would have been her 100th birthday. The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, home of the Ella Fitzgerald Theater, is serving as the site for the four-day celebration. There are events for all ages. Bring the kids Wednesday, April 19 for a free Ella-themed birthday party. School-age children can enjoy cupcakes, a scavenger hunt, and a special performance by an Ella impersonator. Read more...  Delegate Price to Host Spring Legislative Town Hall Come out to South Morrison Family Education Center, Monday, April 17, as Delegate Marcia "Cia" Price (95th District) hosts a Spring Legislative Town Hall. The event takes place in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Del. Price is offering updates on legislation that is becoming law in July. Citizens can also hear presentations on environmental issues, receive updates on gun violence prevention measures, learn about advocacy opportunities, and get information on summer opportunities for youth.
