Session Update Jan 2022 Week 4

2022 Session Update
Week 4
VA Delegate John McGuire
(Navy SEAL - Father - Business Owner)
The General Assembly convened on January 12, marking the beginning of the 402nd legislative session of the House of Delegates.
We have much work ahead of us to make Virginia the best place to live work and raise a family. It is an honor to be your voice and fight for you in Richmond. We are getting after it!
“Predator Protection Act”
Success: Our bill to repeal the Predator Protection Act HB257 with Senate amendments, which allowed the Loudon County school board to try to cover up sexual battery of a child, just passed the floor 59-40 and is headed to the Senate. Our children are number one and it is unconscionable to think that school administrators should sweep this conduct under the rug, instead of informing parents and law enforcement. This bill eliminates the egregious senate amendments from last year, which ended mandatory reporting of sexual battery, stalking, and abduction in schools to police..
Mask Optional?
Parent choice: More and more school systems in Virginia are getting on board with parental choice and executive order No. 2 to make masks optional in schools. An Arlington county judge heard arguments on both sides in a law suit which the schools filed against Youngkin. She said she would issue a ruling soon.

Capitol Commission Bible Study
Pastor David Anderson and his wife hold a "Capitol Commission" Bible Study every Thursday morning at 7am on the sixth floor of the General Assembly building. They stopped by my office to pray for Virginia.
Delegate A.C. Cordoza Speech
Powerful Speech: Delegate A.C. Cordoza exposes partisanship in the Black Caucus and tells how he went from voting for Obama to becoming a Republican. Click here
Winsome Sears
We are excited to have Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears preside over the Virginia State Senate. She gave a speech this week at the Rural Caucus reception.
Pals, Delegates Buddy Fowler and Delegate Joe McNamara
HB 1128 Income Tax Veteran Subtract

Louisa County
I ran into Louisa County constituents, Jim Riddell, and member of the Board of Supervisors, Willie Gentry, this week at the General Assembly. It is has been an honor to work with both of you these past five years, in order to improve the lives of citizens in Louisa County.
Former Delegate Terrie Suit
Former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, Terry Suit (2000-2008) paid us a visit this week. She is married to a fellow Navy SEAL brother and is now chief executive officer of the Virginia Realtors.
Appomattox County
The mayor of Appomattox County, Richard C. Conner, and member of the Appomattox Town Council, Mary Lou Spiggle, stopped by to say Hello.
Bridgewater College Shooting
Our hearts go out to Bridgewater College. Please pray for the families of the two officers, campus safety Officer J.J Jefferson, left, and campus police Officer John Painter, who were killed in the line of duty, as well as the students and staff of Bridgewater College. We are thankful for the many men and women in law enforcement, who risk their lives every day in order to keep us safe.
THANK YOU!
I am committed to adhering to the principal duties of Government, as stated in our Declaration of Independence, the protection of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I look forward to seeing you in the District. In the meantime, please continue the teamwork and let me know what you are thinking. You can reach me at deljmcguire@house.virginia.gov or 804-698-1056.
