In order to fully integrate the goals and objectives of environmental justice across the Commonwealth inclusive policies must be prioritized at all levels - from the Governor’s cabinet to divisions of state agencies. Two bills help accomplish this goal: SB 1318 from Senator Hashmi and HB 2074 from Delegate Simonds.
Virginia cannot advance environmental justice unless it prioritizes the voices of impacted community members during key decision-making moments. These bills will establish the Environmental Justice Interagency Working Group that will help ensure that the priorities of environmental justice are included and advocated for at all levels of state government.
