Dear Thomas, I have received a number of inquiries about the two Constitutional Amendments on the Virginia ballot. Here are my thoughts: Amendment #1: Redistricting is when the legislative district lines are redrawn for a new census. Under current law, redistricting is handled like any other bill, which means that the party with the majority -- currently the Democratic Party -- completely controls the process. Amendment #1 would change this process and create a bipartisan redistricting commission to hold public hearings and draw a new map to present to the Assembly for a vote. I support Amendment #1. Amendment #2: This amendment would eliminate state and local taxes for a vehicle owned and used by a veteran with a 100% permanent service-related disability. I also support Amendment #2. For more information and the text of the amendments, click here. As you may know, for the 2020 election Virginia voters have options for voting early in person or absentee. Local registrar information can be found here, and for general information on deadlines and what is available, you can click here: Sincerely, Rob Bell |
