It was time consuming, but a blast putting this six-part series together!
We'll start first with some memorabilia, then we will view videos, photos, articles, and comments in chronological order, starting in November, 2019 and concluding with post-Lobby Day coverage in February, 2020.
Let's make Lobby Day on January 18, 2021 even bigger! You can bet HB961, the semi-automatic rifle, standard capacity magazine, and suppressor ban, will be front and center in an effort to strip us of those items before the 2021 elections.

Robert McLaurin, from Louisiana, sent me a t-shirt to commemorate Lobby Day. What do the numbers mean? 35,000+ attendees, 25 degree temperature, and a 5 degree wind chill! Robert noted, "that is the coldest this Bayou Boy has ever been without snow and ice present." He and his crew plan to wear those commemorative shirts on Lobby Day 2021.

After I joked that I didn't get any of those cookies, guess what arrived in the mail a few days later? In a show of defiance to gun grabbers, Teran's note with the cookies said, "I believe in cookies, and I'm not afraid to use them..." And I fully believe she means it, too!

By December 3, 2019, over 24 counties had passed Sanctuary resolutions! Turnouts had been growing as the wave spread. Here is a video from Virginia Beach when the issue was first brought up in front of the City Council, but not voted on yet. Over 1,000 people showed up and that soon would be considered a small turnout!

As the number of Sanctuaries continued to skyrocket, with eye-popping crowd sizes in the thousands at local government meetings, the anti-self-defense Democrats decide that confiscating guns was not going to be all that popular right now. Just a few days earlier, VCDL predicted the Democrats would try to "compromise" and grandfather in existing ARs, standard capacity magazines, and suppressors and that's what they did. Gun owners didn't fall for that tactic, and crowd sizes at local government Sanctuary meetings got even bigger - over 3,000 people in some cases!

December 13, 2019 - Palmetto State Armory announces an AR-15 stripped lower-receiver to commemorate the fight against the proposed ban on semi-automatic rifles in Virginia. The number of Sanctuaries continued to soar, with their resolutions saying that they won't enforce any unconstitutional gun laws. Some local sheriff's, such as Culpeper County's Scott Jenkins, said they won't enforce unconstitutional gun laws including any gun bans. Jenkins went so far as to say he would deputize the gun owners in his county, if he had to, so any such ban wouldn't apply there! The Democrats panicked. They hadn't planned on any of this. They threatened to withhold funds from local governments and even talked publicly about calling out the National Guard to enforce those gun laws! In return, citizens began to rally around their local government and sheriffs, and militias were preparing to protect their local government! At this point in time, there were about 80 Sanctuary counties already.

Since mid-december conspiracy theories abounded about various groups, from ANTIFA to white supremacists, coming to the rally to cause trouble (a Charlottesville 2.0 situation) or for the rally to be used an excuse by the government to violently attack attendees. None of the predictions of doom and gloom happened. Richmond was not like Charlottesville, where two groups who hated each other were forced to mix with violence ensuing while the police stood down. There was no opposition group in Richmond and no hatred present at Lobby Day. Just good people from all walks of life wanting their voices heard and their rights protected. The next article encompassed various theories as to why no one should attend Lobby Day, and it did scare away some attendees, unfortunately.

January 13, 2020, thousands of NRA and VCDL members showed up for the first hearing on gun bills in the General Assembly. January 14, 2020, a new incoming Prince William Board of Supervisors had vowed to repeal the Constitutional County resolution that the outgoing Board of Supervisor passed in December at the new Board's first meeting. To keep gun owners from showing up, they moved the meeting from the evening to 2 pm in the middle of a work day. It didn't work. Gun owners braved snow and hundreds showed up and over 100 spoke! January 14, 2020, Governor Northam has now reached panic mode, as VCDL's Lobby Day looms with a massive crowed expected to attend. He declares a state of emergency and bans guns on Capitol grounds (illegally) and plans to put up fencing, creating a self-defense-free zone to keep the event as small as he possibly can. Even law enforcement not working the event would be disarmed! Looking at current events, it's just fine with Northam and Richmond Mayor Stoney for rioters to burn down buildings, assault and kill people, destroy property, etc. Only peaceful gun owners are a threat that requires a state of emergency and strong enforcement of the laws:

January 17, 2020, after a Richmond judge denies a stay on the Governor's Capitol grounds gun ban, VCDL appealed to the Virginia Supreme Court, who punted saying they did not get enough information from the lower court to decide if that court erred. The case is still alive in court as of September 5, 2020 to settle the issue for future events. The COVID-19 issue has pushed such things to the back burner for the courts.

January 19, 2020, rumors were going around that ANTIFA was sending 50 buses to disrupt Lobby Day. Another rumor said only 7 buses, but ANTIFA would be wearing MAGA hats and NRA garb and would attack other ANTIFA members posing as anti-gun protesters to make it look like the pro-gun said was the aggressor. Someone was sure trying hard to limit the size of Lobby Day!

The media refused to believe that you could have 50,000 people walking around with guns and not have tons of arrests (low-ball estimate used by media was 22,000 people). When they couldn't find even one arrest at the rally, they started looking blocks away from the rally and found that a woman wearing a bandanna over her face, which she refused to remove, had been arrested 90 minutes after the rally had ended. (Looking back now on someone being arrested for refusing to take OFF a mask seems funny.) Charges against her were later dropped. The media implied that the woman was somehow a part of the rally to avoid having to say there were no arrests.

I got home from the rally about an hour ago, and I just wanted to give you my thoughts before it slipped my mind.
I really liked how it was set up, and everyone working was knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant. All of the other attendees that I met, or bumped into were very pleasant and polite, and I do mean ALL of them. It blew my mind that you had that many people together, and everyone was so NICE! All of the law enforcement personnel were so helpful, professional, and pleasant. I spoke with my state legislators, who were very friendly and eager to listen to my questions and concerns. Then again, they are Republicans.
This was my first rally with VCDL, but it most certainly will not be my last. Honestly, before this 2A sanctuary movement came about, I had never heard of VCDL. However, I signed up for a membership on Saturday, and plan to continue to follow your exploits, as well as help whenever possible.

Because of my wife's recovery from surgery I was not able to join with the Lobby Day troops. I was able, though, to monitor various national media on their reporting of the various activities, and find out how it was being covered out in the hinterland.
A great deal of the coverage was highly positive. Gun owners came across as respectful, well behaved, and competent, despite all the "gloom and doom" predictions from No-No Northam, Herring, and the rest of the "Nay Sayers Chorus"
One media article that caught my eye typified the positive coverage generated. Amazingly enough it was a tale in the Washington Post about a cafeteria owner in Richmond who had been worried at first but stayed open for VCDL members and others. the story read in part;
Skinner had been startled when some customers began showing up Sunday with assault-style rifles across their chests. She had meant to put out a sign asking people to leave guns and placards at the door but hadn't had time. In the end, however, it wasn't necessary. The guns hadn't been an issue. WA media covered it in the leading day, I was traveling to CA today, so I didn't see the WA coverage.
In CA, which I had very low expectations on coverage, there was what I'd call "positive coverage". I love what y'all have done for the 2nd amendment.
WA news coverage prior made it appear that there would be lots of hate and discontent.
CA news coverage tonight painted a pic of tens of thousands "pro-gun" supporters showed up in Richmond to send a message. A few "counter protesters" also showed up.
Don't stop, FIGHT the good fight, you ARE making a difference across this nation. The fact that there was coverage, in this anti-gun bastion, of the pro-gun support gives hope to many.
FWIW, the WA media framed (prior to today) the protests as a bunch of neo-nazi, gun toting freaks.

I'm still in Richmond and typing on my iPad so bear with me. The rally today was supposed to start at 11 so the VCDL suggested that everyone try to be there NLT 1030. I'm staying about 10 miles north of town and I wanted to get there early so I left the hotel at 0830 to try and beat the crowds. LOL! I was still about a mile north of the parking area when I came to a complete stop on the highway with all the other folks that had the same idea.
Mapquest found a short cut so I took it but by the time I got to the baseball field parking lot it was full and it was only 0850. I parked not too far away and joined the massive crowd walking to the Capital. It was a looong walk 3.5 miles one way. I got to meet and talk to a bunch of great people along the way. They were all very thankful that I had come from Texas to support them. "You don't have to thank me. Your fight is OUR fight!" If you've seen the pictures on the internet you can see that they kept us in some isolated areas.
You were only allowed to go onto the Capital grounds after you passed through a magnetometer and had whatever bags you were carrying searched. I assure you that the screening was as thorough as any airport I've ever been to including Heathrow. The crowds around the Capitol were huge and the wait to get anywhere was long. If you were carrying you were not allowed on Capitol grounds. I left my firearm at home in San Antonio because I wanted to get onto the grounds where the speakers were.
The rally itself started at 1100 with a multitude of presenters including one from our Great State of Texas. There were loud speakers positioned all over the grounds so those outside the fence could hear all the speakers as well. The presenters were impassioned. I can't begin to tell you how proud I was to be there. The final speaker was Stephen Willeford who took out Devin Patrick Kelley with an AR15 after he murdered 26 church parishioners in Sutherland Springs. The rally ended at 1200 but a lot of people stayed just to connect with one another.
I have never been in a group that big in my life. The streets were packed! Virtually everyone outside the fence was carrying. I saw everything from 22s to a 50 BMG. AR-15s were a dime a dozen. All that being said, I've never been around a nicer group of people! Lot's of "Yes sir, No sir" and "Excuse me." I could only wish that ALL of these people were my next door neighbors. I asked one of the Police Officers if they had had any problems and he said "Not a one. Everybody has been cooperative and polite."
All of the Virginia State Police Officers, the Capitol Police Officers, and Virginia State Troopers were as nice as they could be. I've never felt safer than I felt today being around all those people. Kindred spirits one and all. Texas was well represented. I saw Texas Flags and Texas patches and when our speaker from Texas spoke and said "Who here is from Texas?" There were quite a few shouts that went up. Mine included! ( gotta admit that put a lump in my throat)
I asked several locals "What happened to your state?" The answer was the same "Gerrymandering." Unfortunately they're not very hopeful that they can turn it around. But as one speaker said "Now is not the time to give up! Washington's men were fighting in the ice and snow many in their underwear and many with no shoes or socks. They didn't give up and YOU SHOULDN'T EITHER!"
A couple of other snippets from the speakers;
"When rulers run amok, no right is safe."
"Today they are coming for your AR15s. Tomorrow it will be your shotguns. Then it will be your freedom of speech and then it will be your children. Because when you attack the rights of gun-owners you attack the safety of the families they are protecting."
"We are Virginia. We will NOT be a Socialist experiment."
"There is a bill being introduced that states if you are shot in a "Gun Free Zone" you will have the right to sue the government."
"When the government tells you that you don't need guns because they are there to protect you, remind them that they were supposed to be protecting Jeffrey Epstein too."
I'm going home tomorrow and I'll try to figure out how to post some of the pictures that I took.
I was proud to be there. I was proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with other Patriots and make a stand. And I was proud to stand with Virginians whose forefathers stood with OUR forefathers at the Alamo.
These types of rallies need to happen all across our great nation. Although it occurred under very trying times it sent a very powerful message.

As I was giving out GSL stickers, a lot of you said the stickers did not stay on your clothes - most likely because of the cold weather. You took the long strands of backing paper from me and promised to take care of it. Some told me they will put the trash in their own backpacks - they were willing to do anything to keep the streets clean.
And after the event, you took care of all the trash. I walked the streets at 5:30 p.m. - I saw two extra bags of trash sitting next to city trash cans. If you live under a rock and did not know about the gathering that took place early that day, you would not know about it anyway - the city center was cleaner than ever. Even the news reported about you, the volunteer trash pickers!!

Ralph Northam (D) warned that Second Amendment Sanctuaries will face "consequences" if they refuse to enforce gun control [no such "consequences" have been threatened by the Northam for illegal-alien sanctuaries] • Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring (D) warned Second Amendment Sanctuary counties and municipalities that new gun controls "will be enforced." [no such enforcement of laws has been suggested by Herring for illegal-alien sanctuaries] • Rep.
