Dear Robert —
2018 is here and with it comes a new General Assembly Session. We have relocated to the Pocahontas Building down the street while a new General Assembly building is constructed. My team and I have been working hard to prepare for this session and I am confident that it will be productive and that our hard work will pay off.
This past November, we saw a shift in the political dynamic here in Virginia. With a razor thin majority of one seat in the House of Delegates, and a slim majority here in the Senate, it is critical to protect the conservative principles on which we stand. Those conservative ideals and principles spur economic growth, limit the overreach of state government and ensure that the Shenandoah Valley and the rest of our great Commonwealth is a place where small businesses and families can grow and thrive.
Our new Governor, along with the newly elected Democratic General Assembly members have promised to push their liberal priorities. These include increased gun control laws, Medicaid expansion adding irresponsible costs to our state budget, and regulations to stifle business growth and job creation. I will stand strong for our shared conservative values. Over the next eight weeks, I will lead the fight against initiatives advanced by the liberal priorities of Nancy Pelosi, George Soros, and Michael Bloomberg.
Each week, I will be sharing with you updates on the session and my legislative initiatives which I hope will continue to make life better for my constituents in the Shenandoah Valley. If you are in Richmond during General Assembly, please stop by our new office in the Pocahontas Building. We are in Room 502 on the 5th Floor – East Side. If you have issues you would like to discuss or if you would like to arrange a tour, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 804-698-7526 or email me at mark@markobenshain.com. My legislative aide, Jenni Aulgur, and I stand ready to assist you in any way we can.
Best regards,
