Dear Friends, I hope this finds you doing well, staying cool, and enjoying the summer months. Although our local public schools do not begin classes until after Labor Day, I would like to remind you of the upcoming annual sales tax holiday, which will be taking place this weekend, Friday, August 5th through Sunday, August 7th. During the sales tax holiday period, consumers can purchase qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products without paying sales tax. This includes qualifying items purchased online, by mail or over the phone. As a mother of five, I understand firsthand the expenses involved "back-to-school" shopping. Starting this year, there are additional items that qualify for the sales tax holiday. You can follow the links below to find more information on the various items included in this year's tax holiday: To view a full list of items included in the sales tax holiday, along with guidelines and frequently asked questions for both consumers and retailers, click here. There is no limit on the number of items you can purchase tax-free, as long as each item qualifies. The sales tax holiday is available to everyone, and all Virginia retailers who sell the exempt products must participate. During the sales tax holiday, retailers may also choose to save taxpayers even more by opting to pay the sales tax themselves on items that are not exempt under the guidelines. |
