FOIA Council and Subcommittee meetings - August 20 and September 12

Dear FOIA Council Members, Patrons, and Interested Parties:

This message is to remind you of the upcoming meetings of the FOIA Council and its Rights and Remedies Subcommittee.

The Rights and Remedies Subcommittee will meet at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in the Speaker's Conference Room, Sixth Floor, General Assembly Building, 201 North 9th Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219.  As a reminder, the Subcommittee is studying HB 2125 (Keam)(which would provide that FOIA requests may be made by any citizen of the United States and not just citizens of the Commonwealth), and HB 2321 (Surovell)(which would make the State Corporation Commission (SCC) subject to FOIA and designates venue for FOIA petitions against the SCC).  The Subcommittee consists of Council members Frosty Landon (Chair), Stephanie Hamlett, Ed Jones, James Schliessmann, and Bob Tavenner, as well as industry representative David Ogburn.

The full FOIA Council will meet at 1:30 PM on Thursday, September 12, 2013, in House Room C of the General Assembly Building.

Agendas for both meetings are attached.  If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me or Maria J.K. Everett, Executive Director.
