I just heard from Bill Redpath, who took Gary Johnson petitions to the first of the big Republican Party victory rallies this weekend in Leesburg.
It was 8:00 o'clock on a cold Saturday morning and about 100 people were there, but Bill was still able to get about two dozen signatures.
Among those signatures were those of Governor Bob McDonnell (Henrico County) and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (Fairfax County), as well as Delegate Tag Greason and Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Scott York. (Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling slipped away before Bill could ask for his signature, so he's still out there and fair game for one of us.)
RPV Chair Pat Mullins said he is not signing any petitions, which is fair, since he will be in charge of the signature-counting process, and it would be unseemly for him to look less than impartial. (Don't let that stop you from approaching him; it would be good to let him know we are out there in force and throughout the state.)
For any doubters out there who suggest that the Republican establishment will stand in our way, let this be proof that volunteers for Gary Johnson will not be hobbled or obstructed by the big wigs of the party.
Congratulations to Bill for doing such a tremendous job. I look forward to hearing from more Gary Johnson petitioners around the state this weekend with "good news" stories just like this: obtaining signatures from local elected officials, party functionaries, and candidates for public office. If Bob McDonnell and Ken Cuccinelli will sign the petition, there is nothing preventing any of their RPV colleagues from doing so.
Good luck, and have fun this weekend and Election Day!

Hey regional volunteers, the GOP will sign our petition Saturday, if each of us can show up based on the schedule below. Also, there are county GOP events coming up this month all over, including in Yorktown and Alexandria tomorrow. Don't forget at 8pm tonight to click on www.Yowie.com for the governor's townhall; this Saturday's the Guy Fawkes moneybomb (see the state campaign Facebook page). And please help recruit volunteers to ask a few voters on Tuesday to sign the attached petition which folks can print out.Rick Sincere's schedule for the final GOP push is below...Thanks!Charles D.
