Session Update Jan 2022

2022 Session Update
Week 2
VA Delegate John McGuire
(Navy SEAL - Father - Business Owner)
The General Assembly convened on January 12, marking the beginning of the 402nd legislative session of the House of Delegates.
New Day in Virginia
Governor Youngkin kept his Day 1 campaign promises by ending mask, vaccine mandates, banning CRT in classrooms and firing the parole board.
Winsome Sears
Lt. Governor Winsome Sears made history by presiding over the Virginia State Senate as the first black woman to do so!

"Top Cop" Jason Miyares
Jason Miyares, our newly sworn in Attorney General made history as the first Latino to hold a Statewide Office in Virginia. He has filed several lawsuits.
Martin Luther King Jr.
We honored and remembered Dr. Martin Luther King Jr on Monday. Our country has come a long way since he said: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Isn’t it great we live in a country where a man or a woman of any race religion or creed can work hard and achieve just about anything?
Stop Anti-Semitism
We must stand together to fight Anti-Semitism. The hostage crisis in Texas is just another example of why we must stop hate in all our communities. This is why I’ve introduced legislation to ensure Virginia’s government doesn’t contract work with any business that currently, or plans to take part in, the Anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement. I will always stand with Israel and the Jewish people here at home and abroad.

HB 1161 Virginia Public Procurement Act.

Happy Birthday Former Virginia Governor Wilder
Former Governor L. Douglas Wilder #66 turned 91 this week. Happy birthday and thank you for your service to our Commonwealth.
Repeal HB 257 "Predator Protection Act"
Repeal the “Predator Protection Act": I serve on the Education Committee and our first order of business on Monday will be to vote on my bill to repeal HB257. HB 257 is a Democrat Progressive Bill that allowed the Loudoun County School Board to cover up stalking, abduction, and sexual battery of children. Our children are #1 and it is unconscionable to think that School Administrators would sweep this conduct under the rug, instead of informing Law Enforcement.
General Williams
It was great to see fellow Delegate Jason Ballard at the Military Caucus. Congratulations to General Timothy Paschal Williams on his Reappointment as the Adjutant General of Virginia. He commands the Virginia Army National Guard, Virginia Air National Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force. Also, Congratulations to Daniel Gade, our new Commissioner of Veteran Services.
Goochland GOP
I attended the Goochland GOP meeting and gave our team a legislative update. I encourage you to attend your next GOP meeting.
HB 60 Passed Sub Commitee
Success, my bill passed! HB 60 passed County, Cities and Towns Sub Committee 9-0. This bill will give the town of Louisa flexibility with regard to the number of members required to do work on the Economic Development Authority Board.
Virginia Sheriffs Association
It was a nice surprise this week when I received a special visit from the Goochland County Sheriff's Office including Sheriff Stephen Creasey and several Deputies. To all our men and women in Law Enforcement, we appreciate your service.
Rural Caucus
Proud to attend the Rural Caucus with Legislators at the General Assembly including special guests Speaker Todd Gilbert and Members of Youngkin’s Administration. Agriculture and Forestry make up the largest industry in Virginia with a 70 billion dollar fiscal impact and providing 450,000 jobs!
Food For Thought

  • If there's no critical race theory in our schools, why are Democrats so angry about efforts to remove it?

  • Democrats once again insist that you must have proof of vaccination to work, but no proof of who you are to vote.
THANK YOU!
I am committed to adhering to the principal duties of Government, as stated in our Declaration of Independence, the protection of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I look forward to seeing you in the District. In the meantime, please continue the teamwork and let me know what you are thinking. You can reach me at deljmcguire@house.virginia.gov or 804-698-1056.
God Bless,
