The Fight for Ideas of Freedom is Essential ...

Dear Friend of TJI,

Today is “Giving Tuesday” … a day when Americans band together to support nonprofits doing essential work.

Some may not think of a public policy organization as “essential.”

But we at the Thomas Jefferson Institute believe building support and fighting for the ideas of freedom is very essential ... now, more than ever.

It’s why conservative icon Steve Moore endorsed giving to the Thomas Jefferson Institute, saying “If ever there was a time Virginia needed a conservative think tank, that time is now.”

The reason “why” is simple: It needs to be done. And if not us, who?

At a time when conservatives have started fighting with each other, some seem to forget who our real adversaries are. The Thomas Jefferson Institute hasn’t forgotten.

Our programs connect conservatives, share ideas, and promote important conversations.

  • Perhaps you attended one of our dinners and online events reaching more than 1,000 Virginians with top speakers like Swedish author Johan Norberg, President Trump’s pollster, John McLaughlin, or Kevin Hassett, President Trump's former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors;

  • Our monthly “Center Right meetings” bring together a growing number of national, state and local conservatives to work together – business conservatives, social issue conservatives, and political activists; and

  • A new program we’re still formulating seeks to bring together conservative teachers and students, educating and arming them with the facts they need to battle socialism in economics and to defend free speech in education.

And then we take action. Just two examples --

  • This year, we delayed a vote on the Transportation and Climate Initiative – part of the Green New Deal which will raise gas taxes to 50 cents a gallon, result in rationing, hurt rural poor dependent on cars, and redirect money away from road construction and repair. We’re already started using all our tools to fight against its passage in the January General Assembly. Will we have the funds to win?

  • This year, we started our VATeacherChoice campaign. It helped teachers leave the teachers union to join an independent education association – denying the leftish politics of the unions more than $100,000 in annual dues money. This year, the battle extends to opposing collective bargaining for local government workers. If we lose?  The government unions grow bigger and will eventually win Repeal of Right to Work, cost taxpayers millions, and deny public employees their freedoms.

None of this is possible without your support. And they are just a few of the reasons why I'm asking you to make certain we have the resources in 2021 by clicking here and making a generous tax-deductible gift to the Thomas Jefferson Institute today.

Even better: A generous donor has offered to match the first $10,000 raised today. That means you can double your impact by helping secure $20,000 for the Jefferson Institute:  $25 becomes $50; $100 becomes $200; $500 instantly becomes $1,000.

But the match is good only for tax-deductible gifts received today by clicking here.

My friend, progressive billionaires (Bloomberg, Soros, Bills, Zuckerberg) have poured hundreds of millions of dollars into turning Virginia a progressive “blue.” We don’t have billionaires. But we do have you.

We at the Thomas Jefferson Institute believe building the ideas of freedom is essential if our Commonwealth and our nation are to survive.

Don't you agree? Won’t you lend your support with a tax-deductible gift by clicking here?
Christian N. Braunlich
President

PS -- You and I recognize the growing threat to our institutions over the past several months. We are at an critical moment for our nation and our state, and to meet the challenges of the future, your tax-deductible support is needed today. Please make your gift by clicking here.

And remember … the first $10,000 we receive today will be matched!
