FACES OF THE GOP: Anna Urman, 43rd District GOP Candidate

If you are having trouble viewing this message, see it in your browser.

Anna Urman, the GOP nominee for Delegate in the 43rd District, has an incredible story to tell voters.

Anna is a small business counselor, teacher, and mother to Astrid (6) and Lorelei (2).  She is active in the business community, and devotes time as an animal rescue volunteer.  Her passion for the American Dream, individual liberty, a limited government and free enterprise stems from her personal story as a Soviet refugee.

Anna is an immigrant, born in Belarus and raised in Lithuania. Both countries were part of the Soviet Union at that time. Her parents were musicians and had difficulty finding work and a place to live. But most of all they worried that their children would face obstacles in the Soviet Union at every point in their lives due to their religion.

Her family fled the Soviet Union in November of 1988, along with several other families.  When they left, they had only $90 per person; the limit the Soviets placed on currency allowed out of the country. Anna’s family finally made it to Brooklyn, New York where they stayed with relatives while her father visited piano stores he found in the Yellow Pages until he found work as a piano tuner/repairman.  Her mother started working as a teacher at a Russian daycare center.

Because Anna was the best English speaker in the family, she often accompanied her parents and grandparents to a variety of government offices and appointments. She translated letters from banks, landlords and the Social Security Administration.  She still remembers her parents’ Social Security Numbers because she had to fill out most of the forms.

But what Anna admires most of all about her parents is their fierce determination to make it in their new country without the need for government help.  Anna’ parents faced a choice early in their new lives in America: make it on their own or accepting government assistance.  Anna’s father said “We did not come here to stay on welfare.”  Three years later, Anna’s father had his own piano tuning business and the family moved to the suburbs of New York City.

Anna became a U.S. citizen at age 21 and is running for the House of Delegates to pay back a debt she feels she owes the country that took her in when her family did not have a place to call home.

Anna is deeply concerned that the American Dream she cherishes may not be there for the next generation. Freedom of speech and religion is on the decline, our rights to property and privacy are being curtailed and businesses are being taxed into extinction.  She hopes you can help her fight for free enterprise, individual liberties and our children’s future by supporting her campaign.

Help us get Anna elected so she help keep the American dream alive for our Commonwealth.  Help us help Anna and other great candiates by donating $5, $20, $100, or whatever you can – every bit helps to get the word out, and turn out the vote.
