From Bill Redpath:

URGENT--FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND ACTION

NEW REVISED LPVA PRESIDENTIAL PETITION SHOULD BE USED STARTING ASAP

Dear LPVA Members and Friends:

Attached please find the new LPVA presidential petition for 2012 that
should be used for petitioning effective immediately. Please note
that this newly revised petition has a revision date on it of "3/12"
at the bottom of the petition. This replaces the presidential
petition with Todd Martinsen as the 7th Congressional District
elector, with the revision date of "5/11" at the bottom, which is the
current version of the petition.

Please retain all previous petition signatures gathered this year,
including those petitions with David Switzer or Todd Martinsen as the
7th Congressional District elector. Please have these forms notarized
and then mail them to Jim Lark as soon as possible. His mailing
address is PO Box 274, Free Union, VA 22940. We will be submitting
all signatures to the State Board of Elections (SBE).

This is why we are changing the petition going forward this year: On
Thursday night (June 14), we learned that the General Assembly had
changed the wording of the affidavit on the back of the petition that
the petition circulator signs when getting the petitions notarized.
In consultation with our counsel Gary Sinawski, Chuck Moulton, Jim
Lark and Bill Redpath have decided that it is in the best interests of
the LPVA and the presidential campaign that we start petitioning
immediately with the new petition that is attached to this email. We
are retaining Ed Clark and David Bergland as our stand-in candidates
on the petitions. Do NOT alter the petitions to Gary Johnson and
James Gray. The LPVA will notify the SBE of the actual candidate
names at the time of our petition submission.

While there is email communication from a State Board of Elections
employee that the petitions with Martinsen as the 7th CD elector and
the 5/11 revision date will be accepted by the State Board of
Elections, we cannot be absolutely certain of that, so we want to go
forward petitioning with the attached petitions with the revision date
of "3/12."

Please keep LPVA Petition Coordinator Jim Lark advised as to how many
signatures you possess. His email address is jwlark@virginia.edu. If
you can break out your total signatures by Congressional District,
please do so.

Because we are not completely certain that the signatures on the
Martinsen petition will be accepted by the State Board of Elections,
it is all the more urgent that we make our initial signature
submission as soon as possible to get validity feedback from the State
Board of Elections. To do that, we must have 10,000 total signatures,
and at least 400 total signatures from each of the 11 Congressional
Districts in Virginia. Please have your completed petition sheets for
all versions of the petition notarized and submitted to Jim Lark as
soon as possible.

If you have any questions about the petition drive in general or this
matter in particular, please contact Jim Lark at jwlark@virginia.edu
or (434) 973-5958.
