1. Help needed:  VCDL table at Glock Sport Shooting match in Bluefield, VA on August 1 and 2

VCDL will have a table at the Glock Sport Shooting match on August 1 and 2 at:

Triangle Sportsman's Club
770 Triangle Road
Bluefield, VA 24605

Over 500 competitors are expected from across the country!

VCDL needs member-volunteers to help staff our display promoting all we do as Virginia's Premier Grassroots Second Amendment Rights Organization.

Your admission will be free and you'll have access to all the activities surrounding the match.

If you are available to help for a few hours on that Saturday and/or Sunday please contact Bryan Dunn, VCDL Gun Show Coordinator, at   bryan.dunn@vcdl.org

2. July Bowling pin shoot to benefit VCDL was a great success!

Many thanks to Todd Freeman (Happy Birthday, BTW!) for setting up a bowling pin shoot to benefit VCDL!  85 shooters took part in the five hour event and raise over $3,000!  All while having a great time!

There are some darned good shooters that take part in the three annual matches at Todd's place, so I was elated that I managed to win 5 out of the 13 times I competed back on July 11!

You are competing with 5 other shooters shooting in the same class in each round (.22, 9mm/.38, .40 and above, pistol-caliber carbine, shotgun, and modified [optics, race gun, etc.]).  The first one to clear the 5 bowling pins completely off his table wins that round.  I came in second on one round because my last pin was in mid-air when one of my opponents' last pin hit the ground.  :-(

In case of a tie, there is a shoot-off using a "Texas Star."

Here's some video of a round being shot:

Thanks to VCDL EM Brandy Polanowski for setting up and running the VCDL table at the event!

3. VCDL president to speak at Family Foundation event on July 25 in Richmond

Senator Amanda Chase and I are speaking at a Family Foundation event on Saturday, July 25, from 8:20 to 8:35 am.  Registration starts at 7:30 am.

Location:

Family Foundation
707 East Franklin Street
Richmond, VA 23219

For more information on the overall event, contact Britton Ross at:  britton@familyfoundation.org

4. Things are heating up - new email address to ask VCDL questions

For me, things are starting to look a lot like December all over again.  Between the "No local gun-control" resolution effort, which is spreading across the state, lawsuits, VA-ALERTS, etc., I simply can't spend 6 hours a day dealing with the flood of emails I get.  And I certainly don't want to have another 25,000 email backlog that takes months to resolve like I had in January.

So, to take that load off of me and get you a more timely response to your questions, VCDL has a new reflector that will go to everyone on the Board, except me:  questions@vcdl.org

If you have questions or concerns that I don't need to resolve personally, please use that email address and someone on the Board (Jim, Pat, Bruce, John, Al, or Gary) will respond when they get a chance.

If you need to contact me on any of the following items, don't hesitate to do so:
  • Urgent matters dealing with local or state government gun issues
  • WTLG team leader issues and reports
  • Suggested items for VA-ALERT
  • Any intelligence or things of a sensitive nature that, as president, I need to know
If you send something to questions@vcdl.org that I need to answer, it will be forwarded to me.

I appreciate everyone's help and understanding with this!

5. Register voters!

You can direct people who are not registered to vote to this location to do so.  If registered, they can update their address and other information:

https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation

6. Coverage of VCDL/GOA Universal Background Check lawsuit

https://news.yahoo.com/virginia-judge-upholds-much-gun-194903592.html

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IkwN3iLMes&feature=em-uploademail

Here is Attorney General Mark Herring's press release.  Talk about unprofessional:  Herring refers to peaceful citizens who want to protect one of their most important rights under the Constitution as, "extremists in the gun lobby."  He conveniently fails to mention that the judge disagreed on a very key issue: the legal-balancing test the state wanted to be applied to the case.

8. Laws and regulations for carrying in National Parks

Mark Fye provided the following information that might be useful to you when visiting National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, and land owned and administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service:

Here is a link to a PDF brochure the National Park Service has posted on its official website. Hard copies are also available at most visitor centers.

The brochure also mentions the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009, which also pertains to National Wildlife Refuges, lands owned and administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/management/upload/Firearms-in-IMRparks2-2010.pdf

The NPS' regulations (36 CFR) were changed to reflect the Act.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/36/2.4

The Code of Federal Regulations pertaining to the National Wildlife Refuge System also reflect the Act's mandate to the Interior Secretary. See subsection "E."

9. A Catholic case for the Second Amendment

10. VCDL Annandale meeting for August 20 is cancelled.  Online meeting will be held instead

Mr. COVID-19 is still a problem for the meeting room we use in Annandale.  Details on the online meeting will come as we get close to that August meeting date.

We are looking at the possibility of getting different accommodations for our NoVA meetings.

11. How Taxpayers Are Funding the Gun-Control Agenda This Election Cycle

Using our own tax dollars to disarm us:

12. Gun Control's Black Lives Matter Problem

Gun control has always been about controlling minorities in America.  The gun-control groups have been hoping minorities don't discover that fact and continue to "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

13. Jessica Whitaker, Mother of One, Shot Dead After Saying 'All Lives Matter'

Be safe out there.  Remember to avoid shouting matches or physical confrontations so that you remain innocent and thereby maintain your right to stand your ground if violently attacked.

14. Potts Slope Range and other public ranges:  please pickup after yourselves and follow the rules

Member Steve Wirt has asked that I post this message from him on VA-ALERT:

To All that Visit Potts Slope Shooting Range, and all the other Public National Forest Ranges:

These ranges are FREE for public use.  They were closed down over 3 months for COVID-19, and only recently re-opened,

The Forest Service runs the ranges, and Potts Slope is closed on Tuesdays for cleaning and maintenance.

I have been going to Potts for 20 years or more, but I recently I have Noticed that between Tuesdays, the range is Increasingly cluttered with plastic bottles and other trash that I will clean up myself if I'm there alone.

Attached is the sign at the ranges and my cardboard sign below it.  The range rules say to use no other targets but paper and cardboard. Period. Plastic water or soda bottles may be fun to shoot, but the range sign says those are prohibited or even Illegal.  Steel Targets will get you fined!

While I hope that the Ranger District won't close a range over major clutter, I have heard them speak of it!  I have also heard them say they may hire a range officer and start charging a daily fee for use.

We can avoid those two scenarios by simply being responsible gun owners and obeying the rules. Let's keep the range clean and open for all to enjoy!

15. Florida homeowner shoots 3 home intruders, 2 fatally

Home invasions by multiple people are becoming more frequent.  I'm not sure what gun the Florida homeowner used, but an AR-15 is an excellent gun when being attacked by multiple assailants.

This home invasion didn't work out well for the criminals.

16. VCDL president interview on Freedom & Prosperity radio

Joe Thomas and I discuss the large volume of gun sales and other issues going on with guns currently.

Disarming the Heroes

17. Chantilly gun show on July 24, 25, and 26 is cancelled.  New dates in August

The new dates are August 21, 22, and 23 at the Dulles Expo Center.

18. VCDL president interview: VA Gun Owners Prep for Possible Gun Control Push During Special Session

Cam Edwards has an excellent show.  I first saw Cam when he was hosting a talk show for the NRA some years ago.

https://youtu.be/IFOOkiyuzoc

19. Providence Computers in Chesapeake welcomes CHP holders

A gun-friendly store that has a sticker prominently on their store window welcoming concealed carry (and, thus, unwelcoming any criminal miscreants).

20. Virginia gun sales top 81,000 in June, a new record

Lots of new gun owners, including people who have suddenly changed the side of the fence they are standing on.

21. Northam holds gratuitous gun-control bill signing to rub gun owners' noses in it

Northam did this silly ceremony days after the new laws were already in effect. The video is below, but if you have a weak gag-reflex when people are lying through their teeth, you might want to skip it.

22. Virginia Gun Control: Minorities Speak Out

https://www.mom-at-arms.com/post/virginia-gun-control-minorities-speak-out

23. Subway Bans Open Carry of Firearms in Restaurants Nationwide

This is the same type of ban that Target, Chipotle, and other stores implemented years ago to make the Demanding Mom's happy, but not really change anything.  It is an "ask" not to open carry, not an order.  So, my response is "Thanks, but no thanks," and I go about my business.

24. Interesting pepper-spray solution when you can't carry a firearm

7 streaming shots, up to 20 feet.  Legal pretty much everywhere in Virginia, including on school property.

25. National Reciprocity Needed Amid Nationwide Riots

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/06/19/hawkins-national-reciprocity-needed-amid-nationwide-riots/

26. Never gets old: Delegate Mark Levine shows his complete ignorance of guns in hilarious way

Thanks to Mark Levine for his hilarious video on him explaining his "assault weapon" ban bill, HB 961!  He is totally clueless on guns.  Perhaps that explains why he hates them so much.

https://youtu.be/tFlt6XUaoHw

On this next video, skip to the 21:00 minute mark and watch as it shows Levine's face when he lost the vote in the Senate on his "assault weapon" ban bill, HB 961.  You can see Sheriff Scott Jenkins seated three rows behind Levine, wearing a brown coat, standing and applauding the vote.  And gun-grabber Delegate Alfonso Lopez, 2nd person on the left of Levine in the font row with his arms crossed, also has a priceless look on his face.  ;-)
