Subject: FW: Urgent Alert on the National Popular Vote (NPV)
It's that time of year again. Virginia's General Assembly is in session and we need to closely monitor their legislative activities on a daily basis. This message addresses SB1101 which will include Virginia in a group of states supporting the National Popular Vote as the means of electing our President/Vice President. Please contact the legislators listed in this message before Tuesday, January 19th and tell them to vote NO on SB 1101.
Thanks,
Lynda Muller,Chair

Subject: Urgent Alert on the National Popular Vote (NPV)
Hi Lynda,
This looks like it should be blasted to all MCRC members ASAP.
Trudy
This will be voted on at the Virginia General Assembly next Tuesday January 19th..
At a federal presidential election, whoever has the most votes nationally would be who Virginia's votes would go to. A few densely populated states would decide the national election..
,We would be disenfranchised.
Please send your own short message OPPOSING the NPV to the following members (15) of the Senate Privileges and & Elections committee which is meeting next Tuesday Vote NO to S.B. 1101

Presidential electors; National Popular Vote Compact. Enters Virginia into an interstate compact known as the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote. Article II of the Constitution of the United States gives the states exclusive and plenary authority to decide the manner of awarding their electoral votes. Under the compact, Virginia agrees to award its electoral votes to the presidential ticket that receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The compact goes into effect when states cumulatively possessing a majority of the electoral votes have joined the compact. A state may withdraw from the compact; however, a withdrawal occurring within six months of the end of a President's term shall not become effective until a President or Vice President has qualified to serve the next term.
