VA COS Application Filed! (with corrected link)

Convention of States Project
Robert --

I wanted to let you know that Delegate Scott Lingamfelter has pre-filed our application for a Convention of the States to rein in the runaway federal government.  Now you can refer to it specifically as House Joint Resolution 497 when you ask your delegate and senator to support it and tell your friends and family about it!  To read the text of the entire resolution, click here:  http://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?151+ful+HJ497

There are two things we need for you to do in order to help our effort succeed in 2015, and the sooner you do them, the better.

First, if you have not already done so, PLEASE sign our online petition at http://conventionofstates.nationbuilder.com   This should take you less than 2 minutes, and it will be electronically sent to your delegate and senator right away.

Second, please call and/or e-mail your delegate and senator and ask them to support HJR 497.  If you need help with doing this or have any questions at all, please let me know and I will be delighted to help you.

Thank you for taking a few minutes of your time to do your part in restoring our Republic.

With gratitude,
Rita Dunaway

Urgent: Vote on marriage tomorrow

subject

Robert --

At the special session tomorrow, the House of Delegates will decide on a new resolution, HR 566, introduced by Delegate Mark Cole (R-88, Fredericksburg). This is similar to HR541 which I emailed you about last week except strengthened.  It requires the Speaker of the House to hire attorneys to defend our state marriage laws – and perhaps other laws such as restrictions on Medicaid expansion, abortion center health and safety standards, and more.

Please contact your Delegate today and urge them to support HR 566!

In the absence of an Attorney General willing to do his constitutionally required job, it’s great to see a House of Delegates that’s willing to take a stand!  Our hope is that the House adopts the resolution and stands alongside our friends at Alliance Defending Freedom who are currently defending our marriage amendment.

It is shameful that we cannot trust our Attorney General to do his job, but he has proven to be the most partisan, activist AG in Virginia history already!

He has violated his oath and taken a position against our state Constitution, an unprecedented action, and thus far gotten away with it.

The House of Delegates can send a strong message that he is not above the law by adopting HR 566!

Please contact your Delegate today and urge them to support HR 566!

Victoria Cobb
President

What Are We Doing In Richmond Tomorrow?

Contact:
Brenda Roberts

DelSTaylor@house.virginia.gov

Team,

Tomorrow the House of Delegates will reconvene in Richmond for

a special session to debate the proposed Medicaid expansion under Obamacare.  As you may have read in today's paper, Click here for Virginian Pilot Article, there will be a heated debate. Under the rules, all Medicaid expansion bills will go to the floor for debate and vote.

I will vote no to Medicaid Expansion.

In spite of months of heated rhetoric and intense debate, nothing has changed.

1.    Current Medicaid is approximately 21% of Virginia's budget and growing at an unsustainable rate, crowding out finite dollars for other core government services. Why expand that? Even with more of a federal share for expansion, the trajectory will not be changed. Current Medicaid must be reformed first.

2.    Medicaid is an antiquated program that does not sufficiently address a growing population. Reforms should allow for new groundbreaking technology to be introduced that lowers costs and creates efficiencies. The private sector is rapidly working on such technologies. Here are some up and coming technologies

3.    Lastly, Virginia should pass a bill, with the Virginia U.S. Congressional delegation's support, asking for a waiver to get all of our 2 billion dollars (approximately) in Obamacare taxes back to us. This, to make sure Virginians do not lose millions of hard earned dollars in administrative federal bureaucracy. If there is to be an attempt for coverage of Virginians who are childless able-bodied adults between 100-130% of the poverty line (this is what Medicaid expansion would cover) in a way that is a hand up, not a hand out and is within our budgetary means, Virginians know what is best for our own.

Additionally, we will be using the time in session to elect judges and make adjustments to the state budget, in dealing with the shortfall in tax revenues.

An aside - Our Fall Fest was an outstanding success. Three close friends of mine brought blue crabs from Maryland, oysters from Virginia, and fresh corn from Delaware. Team Taylor fell short, taking 2nd place in the corn hole tournament. Also, I had the honor of presenting Delegate Tata with a Commending Resolution.  He left a superb legacy for the Commonwealth with his decades of dedicated service.  Hats off Coach!
